THE WOOL
All Felt Indie products are handmade in Byron Bay Australia. As each fleece is unique, so too is each of Felt Indie’s pieces - no two will ever be exactly the same.
The fleece that is used has been washed and cleaned using only natural soap.
CARING FOR YOUR FELT INDIE PIECES AND WOOL ISLAND RUGS
1. Can my rug take the rigours of everyday wear and tear?
These rugs are centrepieces and are not recommended for high traffic areas. If treated with care you will have many enjoyable years from them.
2. Can my rug be vacuumed?
No. You only need to give it a good shake and hang it out into the sun. Wool is naturally dirt and mould resistent.
3. Cleaning the fleece
Even though every fleece has been carefully cleaned by hand, it’s quite possible that you may still find some small pieces of grass hidden in there. If you do, just pull them out. It’s your guarantee of a real fleece!
4. Are any dyes used?
Yes, natural dyes are used in some products.
5. Do I need to wash my rug or throw?
No. If you have purchased a white rug or throw and feel that, after some time, it needs a little freshening up, you could soak it in cold, slightly soapy, water in a large sink or bath and then rinse with white vinegar. If you like to you could add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the vinegar rinse.
Squeeze the water out very gently and dry it flat in the sun or over a bench. The pieces are very heavy when wet.
6. Will my Wool Island rug lose any wool or fluff?
Wool is a natural fibre and, as with your favourite woollen jumper, you can expect a little pilling to occur in time, depending on use. This doesn’t compromise the structure, look or feel of the rug at all.
Felt Indie currently uses four different type of wool, each with differing qualities:
· Thick, chunky, fluffy long wool which will produce fluff due to it's natural structure.
· Very fine and incredibly soft wool is likely to produce a little fluff.
· Long and curly long wool is unlikely to produce fluff.
· Robust, short staple wool is unlikely to produce fluff.
If you are concerned about fluff from your felted sheep rug in your home, it is advisable to choose your rug based on the types of wool described above.
7. Will cleaning my rug remove the lanolin?
Every time a rug is washed some of the lanolin will be washed out. This is why we strongly suggest to only wash if absolutely necessary.
8. Is my rug fire retardant?
Yes. Wool is naturally fire resistant.
9. Will my rug smell?
Yes each rug will have its very own unique but subtle, natural smell. It is the lanolin in the wool that holds the smell
10. Looking after Felt Indie wearables

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT THE ANIMAL FRIENDLY LEATHER FREE SHEEP RUG:
I was most fortunate to have stumbled across felt indie on instagram. Margit's beautiful creations of working with raw fibres and leaving them in it's natural state really caught my eye, not to mention the love and respect she has for the beautiful sheep in which they've come from. After looking longingly through her photos I decided I had to have one! A lovely rug with my colours of light brown tones came up on my instagram feed one day and without a second thought I bought it there and then. My bundle of sheep arrived in the post shortly after and I couldn't get the package open quick enough!
The rug is so soft, the natural tones of the rare fleece look perfect in my house and it even has the beautiful smell of lanolin. The fleece fibres are binded together very tightly by a wet felting technique and it became clear to me that once I had felt the fleece and how strong it is that it would last for many years to come giving me much warmth and joy. Many thanks for all your time and love that went into this rug, your work is such a creative inspiration.

I excitedly received your rug on Tuesday and was absolutely thrilled. Your hand work is exquisite. I have also googled Drents Heidschaap sheep to learn more about what the fleece came from. Thanks again for such a genuinely heartfelt artisan piece made with integrity.
